I am looking for some advise as to what verbiage and/or strategies I can use to discuss this situation with my boss.
I started in my current role as social media manager but work for a very small company and am now on track to become marketing manager. There seems to be a disconnect in my boss's understanding of marketing, and I'd like to tactfully suggest that if they want me to effectively manage marketing, I need to be part of all related conversations.
I've run into situations lately where my boss blindsides me with big marketing decisions, such as suddenly collaborating with a branding company about overhauling our website, or altogether discontinuing our podcast. They don't seem to fully grasp that its important for me to be present during these conversations, because it is their company and they're used to running it alone.
How do I tactfully explain the scope of marketing/how important it is that I'm present for these conversations and decisions IF they want me to truly be manager and IF they want to refine and grow their marketing strategy? I care about this company, I generally collaborate with my boss very well. I simply think they don't understand and I'd like to speak up ASAP in order to unify our efforts.
