I run all marketing/events for a medium size bar/restaurant in a high population area. We have 300k people aged 21+ within 5 miles of the location.
Every week we have recurring events. My strategy thus far has been:
* Post event on FB
* Run engagement ad on ads manager
* People select “interested”
* Usually I can get 100-150 say “interested”
* A random amount of people show up
A year ago this was a fairly dependable method, but now I have no idea how many people will show. We've had events with 150 people saying they were interested, and only 10-15 showed up. These events are all free by the way.
So now I'm trying a strategy of hosting the event on an RSVP site and running an ad linking to the site, from which I can collect phone #'s and use SMS to blast reminders to the people, while also using their # as a way to get them involved in future events. Unfortunately I have not been able to collect a single phone number with this method.
So, how can I have more control over actually getting people to show up? If they mark “interested” on a Monday, they usually forget by Friday and FB only sends a small notification the day of.
Note: We do have good retention once they actually show up, but getting new people is very difficult.
